Owner and Head Designer, Ellana Turner grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was inspired by the art, music, culture and vibrant colors of the city. From the street painter in the French Quarters to the distinguished art galleries on Magazine Street. New Orleans is a breeding ground for artists of all types. In her younger years she was a member of the school art club and in her spare time would make hair bows, earrings and door wreaths with her mom. She took her first sewing classes in High School at the old historic New Orleans Krauss department store on Canal Street. There she learned the basics of sewing with a pattern. She was later mentored by a long time seamstress and bridal gown designer and taught how to give her garments a professional touch. Ellana began making gowns, coats, pants and accessories that people admired and her imagination was without bounds. She fell in love with abstract patterns and the bright colors of the ankara fabric in particular. Abstract art is what she saw, it was like beautiful paintings painted on fabric. As she learned more about herself and her own heritage, that love for art also became a way to express her love for her own African descent. Ellana has always had a love for beautiful abstract art and that love is now captured through the Cloth & Cord brand.
